The Senior Technical Lead is responsible for overseeing effective digital solutions: ensuring a solid technical architecture, breaking work into manageable tasks, documenting technical scoping / implementation details, delegating implementation to a development team, and providing oversight through to final delivery. This position works closely with the non-technical members of the team (Project Manager and Solution Architect), bridging the gap between a client’s needs and the rest of the team. The Senior Technical Lead also serves as an escalation point, both complex development of new features, as well as tracking down stubborn bugs.
Key Tasks amp; Responsibilities
- Develop technical architecture, either independently or in collaboration with a dedicated Technical Architect.
- Translate technical architecture into detailed scoped work, with sufficient implementation details to delegate to a development team.
- Break down work into manageable tasks, and provide estimates in order to empower the production team to manage work effectively.
- Oversee the implementation by the development team, ensuring the end product is high quality and follows best practices.
- Perform code reviews, providing effective feedback to individual developers.
- Perform critical deployments such as to production using industry best practices.
- Be the primary escalation point for complex feature development or bugs.
- Provide proactive mentorship to the development team on development best practices, both in general (such as coding standards and technical documentation) as well as platform-specific.
- Collaborate with the rest of the team and the end client to develop effective technical solutions that meet the team’s needs as well as the client’s end business goals.
- Communicate directly with clients and non-technical members of the production team, effectively translating technical topics in a way that they can understand and make effective decisions.
- Support the non-technical members of the team as well as the client to understand the budget and timeline implications of technical approach.
- Clearly and effectively documenting technical scoping and implementation details so that development work can be maintained by other developers.
- Support the non-technical members of the team to understand developer resource needs and perform effective team planning of work.
- Perform code reviews / audits of legacy code to help the team and client make effective decisions for a path forward.
- Provide vacation backup to the developer team as needed.
- Use Jira tools for day to day work and organization.
Requirements
- 3+ years experience overseeing development.
- 3+ years experience with common ecommerce platforms: Adobe Commerce/Magento, BigCommerce, and Shopify.
- Building and configuring Magento 2 eCommerce websites.
- Experience in coding Magento PHP blocks and templates.
- Developing Magento modules in PHP using best practices.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Takes direction and feedback well.
- Proactively makes recommendations internally and to clients.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
